                               Describir a gente en inglés

La estructura necesaria para hablar sobre la apariencia física en inglés es muy parecida en inglés y español.
1. He has + (adjetivo) + (sustantivo)

   He has got blue eyes . El tiene los ojos azules
2. He is + adjetivo.

   He is tall. El es alto

Para preguntar podemos usar las siguientes estructuras:

Color de los ojos , pelo ....

What colour are ...your eyes? 

What colour is ...your hair?
 (Fijate a la hora de  hacer la pregunta si se trata de  algo contable o incontable (ojos, pelo ...)

Pale complexion: tez pálida

Freckles- pecas (small brown dots on face and arms)

Una expresión que se utiliza para describir a los ingleses es" English Rose" cuando tiene el cabello claro y la piel clara:  My brother is an English rose – he has fair hair and fair skin.

 Dark-brown hair: cabello marron oscuro

 Dark-skinned: piel oscura  

Face

La forma de la cara varia mucho , aquí tienes algunas posibilidades:
Oval face: Cara ovalada 
Wide forehead: frente ancha.
Heart-shaped-  forma de corazon
Square or round face: Cara cuadrada o redonda.

Las caracteristicas (features) pueden variar mucho  entre otras podemos encontrar.

Bushy eyebrows (he has lots of hair!: cejas muy pobladas),
Hooked nose- nariz aguileña 
Broad nose: nariz ancha
Narrow nose: nariz estrecha.
Regular teeth: dientes simetricos
Crooked teeth:  dientes torcidosy  
Rosy cheeks: mejillas sonrosadas 
Snub nose: nariz chata
HAIR -cabello

Long, curly hair: cabello largo y rizado
Short, straight hair: cabello corto y liso.
Wavy: ondulado ( between straight and curly).
A short fringe: un flequillo corto 
Losing his/her hair: perder el cabello = going bald : quedarse calvo

A veces hay que tener tacto para hablar sobre el cuerpo  o  la edad ya que hay que ser "Politicamente correcto" para no ofender a nasdie, asi que evitaremos, por si acaso, el uso de tres palabras: fat, thin and old para evitar herir la sensiblilidad de la persona al que estamos describiendo

Podemos hacer uso de "a bit" or "a little" (un poco) delante de los adjetivos para suavizar la descripcion, ya que son menos directas y mas educadas.
 For example, "He's a little heavy"- El es un poco pesado
 "She's a bit overweight" - Ella tiene un poco de sobrepeso.

Alternativas para expresae "gordo"/ Alternatives to "fat"

Overweight / heavy / plump / a bit chubby (chubby se usa especialmente con los niños)
Curvy /curvaceous (for women) / statuesque (i.e. tall and well-built)
Well-built / a big man (for men)

Observa las diferentes formas de expresar gordo o flaco, unas mas negativas  que otras

She is skinny. (negative)  Ella esta delgaducha                                            She is fat. (negative)  Ella esta gorda

She is underweight. (negative)  Ella esta baja de peso                                She is overweight. (negative) Ella tiene sobrepeso

She is thin. (negative) ella es flaca                                                                  She is plump. (neutral) Ella esta rechonca,

She is slim. (positive) ella es esbelta                                                               She is stocky. (neutral) Ella es baja y fornidable

Alternativas para "delgado"/ Alternatives to "thin"
Slim-esbelto
Slender / petite (especially for women)
Wiry (nervudo,flaco) / without an inch of fat (sin una pulgada de  grasa)

Alternativas a "viejo"/Alternatives to "old"
Las definiciones sobre la edad varían por ejemplo en el Reino Unido una persona entre 60-65 años no es condiderado  "old"
a pensioner / elderly (75+) / a senior citizen
middle-aged (50 +)
