Expresar preferencia- Expressing preferencies

A menudo usamos palabras como” prefer, would, prefer ,would rather para hablar sobre nuestras preferencias.
"I prefer living on my own." Prefiero vivir por mi cuenta
"Would you prefer to see a film or go to a museum
"Would you rather  go shopping with me?"
“She prefers reading comics.” Ella prefiere leer tebeos.
“I
prefer going to the beach than going to a swimming pool.”
I would prefer to see him in person.” Prefiero verlo en persona.
“I would rather go home now.”Preferiría ir a  casa ahora.
“I prefer living in a city. Prefiero vivir en una ciudad (seguido por gerundio;la forma  '-ing' )“I would prefer to be told the truth.”Hubiera preferido que me dijeran la verdad.(seguido por infinitivo; to+ the verb)“Would you rather stay at a hotel?”¿Preferirias estar en un hotel.(seguido por infinitive sin to ).
Prefer, would prefer: va con la preposición 'to'(a)
“I'd prefer living in a city to living in the country.”
“I would (I'd) prefer being alone to being with the wrong person”.
Would rather : van con 'than'(que)
“I would (I'd) rather talk to him in person than call him on the phone.”

  • PREFER:          +   Nombre + TO  + Nombre

  • WOULD PREFER (I'd prefer...)+ TO Infinitive:  para decir lo que alguien quiere hacer  en una situacion en particular
Would you like to have a cup of coffee? I’d prefer to have some water.
¿Prefieres tomar una taza de te?  Prefiero tomar algo de agua

She'd prefer dancing. [shid prefer dansing] Ella preferiría bailar
Shall we go by train? "Well, I'd prefer to go by car.

  • WOULD RATHER (I'd rather...)
“Would rather” [gud rader] es igual que “would prefer” [gud prefer] y también significa “preferiría”. El verbo que sigue a “would rather” va en infinitivo sin “to”.
I'd rather you spoke in English. Preferiría que hablases (o hablaras) en inglés. My brother would rather we didn't go home. Mi hermano preferiría que no fuésemos (o fuéramos) a casa.

·          HAD BETTER + Infinitivo sin to  (= should -deberías)
You had/'d  better  book your flight early.
You must see a lawyer .Debes ver a un abogado (fuerte consejo)
You had better see a lawyer Deberías ver a un abogado (menos enfático que  "Must")
You should/ought to see a lawyer. Deberías ver a un abogado (incluso menos enfático)
